MANHATTAN, Kan. – The UNO baseball team completed its final road trip of the season on Sunday, falling 10-2 to Kansas State at Tointon Family Stadium. The Mavericks are now 12-35 on the year, while the Wildcats improve to 22-27 after sweeping the weekend series.
Seniors
Scotty Donner and
Brady Hohl each finished 2-for-4 on the day, with Donner scoring one of UNO's two runs for the day. Senior
Colby McCord was also 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Robert Youngdahl (2-1) earned the win, limiting the Mavericks to one run with six hits during his four-inning outing. Freshman
Cole Volkers (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits over five innings, walking three and striking out one.
Jared King topped Kansas State's offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Ross Kivett and Wade Hinkle also had multi-hit games with two hits apiece.
K-State got on the board first in the bottom of the first, with Hinkle's RBI double to right scoring Kivett.
The Wildcats added two more runs in the third inning to stretch it to 3-0 before Nebraska Omaha put up its first score of the game in the fourth. Donner led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to third on a McGill single to left, finally scoring on a balk to make it 3-1.
KSU came back for a single score in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to stretch its lead to 7-1. In the eighth, McCord scored for the Mavericks, bringing it to 7-2.
Kansas State tacked on its final three runs with a pair of hits in the eighth, leaving the final score at 10-2.
UNO plays its season finale on Wednesday, May 9, facing crosstown rival Creighton. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
