OMAHA, Neb. —Offense dominated the day as Omaha fell 18-12 to visiting St. Thomas in Summit League baseball Sunday afternoon.
Sparked by
Jackson Trout's 422-foot homer, the Mavericks scored four runs in the first inning and built a 7-0 lead in the second with
Cardel Dick's three-run blast serving as the key swing. But the Tommies put together two huge innings, scoring seven runs in the fifth and nine runs in the ninth for the comeback win.
St. Thomas (9-29, 6-11 Summit) had eight consecutive hits in the ninth-inning rally to overcome an 11-9 deficit with one out in the final frame. Omaha (14-21, 9-8) dropped two of three in the series at Tal Anderson Field.
The end result spoiled big days at the plate for several Mavericks. Trout went 3 for 5 with two homers and three RBIs, and Dick was 3 for 5 with two homers and four RBIs.
Henry Zipay and
Tyler Bishop each delivered a pair of hits.
Eighteen of the Tommies' 23 hits were singles, as seven St. Thomas players had multi-hit games.
