OMAHA, Neb. – University of Nebraska Omaha head hockey coach Dean Blais announced today that senior forward Alex Hudson and junior forward Terry Broadhurst will serve as captains for the 2011-12 season.  In addition, junior goaltender John Faulkner and junior forward Brent Gwidt will serve as alternate captains.  The four were selected in a vote of their teammates.

“Alex and Terry each have made a significant commitment to success this season, and they are outstanding choices as our captains this season,” said Blais.  “John and Brent are also excellent choices to serve as alternates.  All four players have earned the respect of their teammates through their hard work on the ice and off.”

Hudson is UNO's leading returning scorer after earning a career-high 31 points while playing in all 39 games last season.  He was fourth in scoring overall.  The native of Corona, Calif. led the team with four game-winning goals and is just two from tying the UNO career record for game winners.

Broadhurst finished fifth in scoring last season even though he was limited to just 30 games because of injuries.  The native of Orland Park, Ill. had 11 goals and 19 assists for a career-best 30 points.

Faulkner became the first UNO goalie to start every game of a season last year.  In 39 games, he posted a record of 20-15-2 with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.  The native of Sarnia, Ontario tied for the NCAA lead with a school-record six shutouts.

Gwidt appeared in 37 of 39 games last year, totaling three goals and three assists for six points.  The native of Minocqua, Wis. is a two-year starter for the Mavs.

The Mavericks begin their season on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they host the University of British Columbia in an exhibition game at the CenturyLink Center.  Game time is 7:07 p.m.
