Two players who went on to stellar National Hockey League careers after beginning their journeys in Omaha, will be the newest inductees into the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame.
Former Omaha Lancer Paul Stastny, and former Omaha Maverick Josh Archibald will be inducted on Friday, February 27 at a luncheon at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston.
The induction luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $30 each and $240 for a table of eight. They may be reserved by phoning the arena box office at 402-934-6291 between Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Stastny, played junior hockey with the Lancers from 2002-2004 when they were known as the River City Lancers. After a 30-goal season in 2003-04, he went on to play two years at the University of Denver, earning All-American honors and helping lead the Pioneers to the national championship. The next season he stepped into the lineup for the Colorado Avalanche and scored 28 goals to kick-start a 17-year NHL career. He played for five teams and scored 293 goals, retiring after the 2022-23 season.
Archibald played three seasons for UNO, scoring 58 goals, capping his career off by leading the nation with 29 goals in 2013-14, when he was a Hobey Baker top 10 finalist and a first-team All-American. He played four seasons in the American Hockey League and parts of nine years in the NHL, retiring after the 2022-23 season with Pittsburgh.
The Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc.
The Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame was first founded in 1960 by Omaha World-Herald sportswriter Robert Phipps and Omaha Knight general manager Ken Wilson. After the induction of Gordie Howe in 1961, there were no further additions to the Hall of Fame. In 2001, the organization was re-founded and more than two dozen members have been added to the list.
The Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that has donated over $43,000 to charity. The Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame Foundation is made up of nine individuals who serve on a volunteer board. Its primary focus has been to recognize individuals who have made lasting contributions to Omaha's hockey heritage. Those honored have been players, coaches, or builders.
