OMAHA, Neb. (Aug. 21, 2025) - Omaha hockey head coach
Mike Gabinet announced Thursday the addition of veteran NHL scout
Jamie Huffman to the Mavericks' staff as an assistant coach. Huffman joins Omaha after serving as senior advisor to the head coach and general manager for the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers.
"Jamie has a unique understanding of the standards required to compete at college hockey's highest level," said Gabinet. "He's proven he can find, develop and mentor players who go on to succeed at the next level. He will play a critical role in helping us build an elite roster, further solidifying our player development plan. He will help our players understand what it takes to reach the next level, preparing them for the National Hockey League. He will be a major asset to our players and staff."
Huffman arrives in Omaha with 15 combined years of professional and junior hockey experience, serving as an amateur scout with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks, in addition to his role in Des Moines, Huffman spent two seasons as assistant general manager for the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL), taking the organization from last place in the USHL in 2025-16 to an Anderson Cup title (2016-17) and appearance in the USHL final with a .725 winning percentage, good for 87 points in the standings that season.

Huffman began his career as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the NAHL's Austin Bruins, compiling 141 wins over four seasons and twice finished as the NAHL Robertson Cup finalist.
Over the past three seasons, six Mavericks have made NHL debuts with one assistant coach transitioning to the NHL ranks.
