OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha track & field head coach
Chris Richardson announced today the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2015-16 academic year.
“We recently graduated some very talented people from a variety of events, and we've been able to find student-athletes who will be able to fill those spots and make contributions, either immediately or in future years,” said Richardson. “Both our returning and incoming athletes are looking forward to our being eligible for the NCAA championships beginning this year.”
Of the eight incoming athletes, six hail from Nebraska including five from greater Omaha. The Mavericks also will welcome a recruit from New Jersey and South Carolina.
2015-16 Incoming ClassAnnie Catania – Omaha, Neb.Catania comes to UNO from Northwest High School in Omaha where she graduated in 2014. A distance specialist, she also will run cross country for the Mavericks in the fall.
My'Angel Davis – Millville, N.J.A transfer from Iowa Central Community College, Davis joins the Mavericks as a junior. She will focus primarily on the sprints and 400 hurdles. At ICCC, she qualified for the NJCAA championships in the 60 meters, 600 meters and 400 meter hurdles. As a high school athlete, she was a state qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Anna Edet – Elkhorn, Neb.Edet was a three-time Nebraska Class B state qualifier, placing twice, while throwing for Elkhorn High School. Her shot put personal best of 43-03 ¾ would already put here in UNO's top 10 in the event. A multi-sport athlete, Edet also played volleyball and basketball for Elkhorn, qualifying for the state tournament in basketball during her senior year.
Mads Nelson – Mt. Pleasant, S.C.Nelson will focus on short distance events for the Mavericks following a standout career for Wando High School in South Carolina. She was all-conference and all-state both indoors and outdoors and was a USATF state champion and national qualifier.
Zarria Nichols – Omaha, Neb.A sprinter for Omaha North High School, Nichols helped the Vikings to a runner-up finish at the 2014 state championship while being a part of the school's state champion 4 x 100 meter relay team. During her high school career, she placed eight times in the state championship.
Shae Spady – Omaha, Neb.Spady helped Millard West High School to two Nebraska Class A Championships while running short distances and the steeplechase. She placed six times at the state championship after qualifying for the championship seven times.
TaLeah Williams – Norfolk, Neb.A jumper and sprinter at Norfolk High School in Nebraska, Williams placed twice in the state championship during her high school career after qualifying seven times. She also was a member of the Norfolk basketball team which qualified for the state championship in 2015.
Mackenzie Zach – Papillion, Neb.Zach was a three-time class B champion for Platteview High School, winning the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters as a senior in 2015. In all, she is a 12-time state qualifier and placed eight times during her career. She also was a member of Platteview's state qualifying basketball team in 2014.
