KEARNEY, Neb. - Omaha Track and Field opened the outdoor season with a bang at the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney, Neb. 

The day began with two Mavericks competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time in their careers. Freshman Hope Riedel (Lincoln, Neb.) won the event with a time of 11:36.30. Sophomore Ainsley Anderson (Omaha, Neb.) finished second with a time of 11:54.11. Riedel is now fifth in program history, while Anderson is seventh. 

Senior Emma Klein (Gower, Mo.) claimed a pair of top 10 program results. In her first triple jump of the season, Klein recorded an attempt of 5.77 meters, enough to tie for sixth all-time. In the 100-meter dash, her fifth-place finish of 12.18 seconds was a personal record and 10th all-time. 

Junior Avyn Urbanski (Grand Island, Neb.) finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.91. The sprinter now sits sixth all-time. 

Omaha will stick closer to home next week with its first trip to Lincoln for the Husker Spring Kickoff on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.
