SUNRISE, Fla. - Omaha hockey recruit Kris Oldham is the latest current or future Maverick to be drafted by a National Hockey League team.
Oldham, a goaltender currently playing in the USHL for the Omaha Lancers, was taken in the sixth round, 153rd overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second day of the draft on Saturday at BB&T Arena.
The native of Anchorage, Alaska finished his first season in the USHL in 2014-15 with a record of 21-6-4-1 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He ranked eighth in the league in goals against average and 16th in save percentage.
Oldham is the eighth drafted Maverick joining Jake Guentzel (Pittsburgh '13), Brian Cooper (Anaheim '12), Tanner Lane (Winnipeg '10), Avery Peterson (Minnesota '13), David Pope (Detroit '13), Luc Snuggerud (Chicago '14) and Tyler Vesel (Edmonton '14).
Oldham will join the Mavericks for the 2016-17 season.
