OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha hockey team, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, released its 2013-14 schedule today.  The upcoming season is the inaugural season for the NCHC, and the Mavericks embark as a charter member.

“The upcoming season brings almost the same anticipation as Omaha's first season of conference play back in 1999-2000,” said Trev Alberts, Director of Athletics.  “As expected, we have a very challenging schedule in the NCHC, and our staff has worked very hard to put together an outstanding non-conference schedule to complement it.

“Our fans are going to see their team competing against many of the best teams in the country every weekend.”

Omaha's 24-game NCHC schedule will feature four games (home and away) each against league members Colorado College, Denver, Miami, Minnesota Duluth and North Dakota.  The Mavericks also will play a home series with St. Cloud State and a road series at Western Michigan.

The Mavericks begin play in “The National” at Denver on Nov. 1-2.  They play their NCHC home opener the following weekend when they welcome North Dakota on Nov. 9-10.

Following the regular season, the NCHC Playoffs begin with best-of-three quarterfinal series at campus sites on March 14-16.  The four series winners advance to the NCHC Final Four at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. on March 21 and 22.

“This will be as competitive as any season of Maverick hockey,” said Dean Blais, UNO head coach.  “As coaches and players, we will have to be at our very best every night because we will be playing the top programs in the country.”

The Mavericks also will have 10 non-conference games consisting of five two-game series.  Their first six games are all non-conference beginning with the season opener against Bentley on Oct. 11-12 at the CenturyLink Center.  The Mavs also will travel to Northern Michigan (Oct. 18-19) and host Cornell the following weekend (Oct. 25-26) in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Omaha's other non-conference series include a meeting with former CCHA foe Michigan on Nov. 15-16 in Omaha and a trip to Hockey East power New Hampshire on Jan. 3-4.

Season ticket packages for the 2013-14 season will go on sale Monday, April 22.  Current season ticket holders will receive their renewals beginning next week.  Single game tickets will go on sale on August 1.
