WCHA Release
MADISON, Wis. - Twelve members of the Omaha hockey team were named to WCHA Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday. The announcement was made by Western Collegiate Hockey Association Commissioner Bruce M. McLeod, Associate Commissioner Sara R. Martin, Michigan Technological University Athletic Director Suzanne Sanregret (Chair, men's league) and University of Minnesota Duluth Faculty Representative Al Mensinger (Chair, women's league)
Those Mavericks who made the list of 115 men and women players in the WCHA include
Bryce Aneloski,
John Faulkner,
Ryan Massa,
Jaycob Megna,
Brock Montpetit,
Brian O'Rourke,
Zahn Raubenheimer,
Andrew Schmit,
Johnnie Searfoss,
Alex Simonson,
Andrej Sustr and
Ryan Walters. The 115 honorees this season are a new league record.
Aneloski, Raubenheimer, Searfoss and Simonson are all repeat honorees.
To qualify, the student-athletes must have spent at least one year at their current school and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or greater.
“The announcement of our annual WCHA Scholar-Athletes is always a very special time of the year,” said McLeod, Martin, Sanregret and Mensinger in a joint statement. “It is an opportunity for both the Association and our member teams to publically acknowledge the outstanding accomplishments of these young men and women and pay tribute to the amount of time, hard work and dedication each of them put into their already demanding schedules as student-athletes. Achieving this high honor is a remarkable tribute to every one of them and on behalf of the entire WCHA family, we wish them all the success in the world.”
Over the first eight years of the award, there have now been 639 WCHA Scholar-Athlete honorees representing all 12 men's-member and all eight women's-member institutions. Fifty-four (54) of this season's 115 men's and women's WCHA Scholar-Athletes are repeat honorees, including two four-time recipients and 21 three-time honorees.
