OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO baseball team closed its first season of Division I competition on Wednesday night falling 6-1 to crosstown rival Creighton at TD Ameritrade Park. In splitting the series with CU, the Mavericks finish the year with a record of 12-36, while the Bluejays improve to 20-23.
CU's Erik Mattingly (1-3) earned the win, keeping UNO hitless with one strikeout in the first inning. Senior
Andrew Reck (1-7) took the loss, going four innings in his start. He surrendered five runs – three earned – on seven hits, while striking out three with just one walk.

Creighton was led by Brad McKewon and Nick Judkins, who both went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Judkins added an RBI. Chance Ross was also 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, and Mike Gerber was 1-for-4 with two runs driven in. As a team, the Bluejays totaled nine hits to UNO's five.
Creighton took the first lead of the game, scoring one unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Bemboom's single through the left side drove in Ross from second, spotting the Bluejays a quick 1-0 advantage.
UNO was hitless until the fourth, when McCord singled to right. He advanced two bases on a wild pitch but was left stranded as CU battled back with a groundout and a strikeout looking.
In the fifth, the Bluejays loaded the bases with no outs and extended its lead with five runs on three hits and two UNO errors. After CU scored its first two runs of the inning, Gerber sent a two-run single to right to plate Judkins and McKewon, and Alex Staehely came in on a fielding error to make it 6-0.
Facing a possible shutout, the Mavericks put up one run in the top of the ninth, as Hohl was driven in by Waldron's two-out single up the middle. Creighton got a strikeout looking for its final out, however, leaving the final score at 6-1.
As a team, Nebraska Omaha turned two double plays for a final season total of 48, which ranks in the top 50 nationally among Division I teams.
Among UNO's nine seniors, four-year letterwinners Hohl and McCord capped their Maverick careers among the top 10 in school history in multiple categories. Hohl ranks third in total hits (218) and at-bats (632), fifth in games started (159) and runs scored (140) sixth in games played (181), and seventh in doubles (37). McCord finishes at ninth in games played (163) and is also 11th in career doubles (33).
