ST. PAUL, Minn. — Henry Zipay had four hits, including his first home run of the season, as Omaha downed St. Thomas 11-7 in Summit League baseball Sunday.
The Mavericks never trailed in the game but held off a ninth-inning Tommies rally to claim the rubber game of the three-game weekend series. Omaha (10-15, 6-3) had 15 hits in support of starting pitcher
Sam Beck, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
Omaha jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by
Tyler Bishop and a run-scoring groundout by
Nick Riggs. The Mavericks built on a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Zipay and a single by
Jackson Trout that brought in two runs to give Omaha a 5-1 lead over the Tommies (5-21, 2-6).
Zipay's solo home run sparked a three-run sixth inning, including an RBI single by Bishop and a run-scoring double by
Cardel Dick. Zipay, the reigning Summit League Player of the Year, went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, extending his hitting streak to 12 games and his reached-base streak to 17. Three other Mavericks had multi-hit games. Bishop went 3 for 6 with two RBIs, Trout 2 for 5 and
Drew Borner 2 for 4.
The Mavericks finish a seven-game road stretch with a three-game series at South Dakota State from April 2-4 before returning home to Tal Anderson Field on April 10 to face Oral Roberts. All Summit League games are streamed live on the Summit League Network via Midco Sports.
