OMAHA, Neb. — In a matchup between the top two teams in the Summit League baseball standings, Omaha fell to conference-leading Oral Roberts 9-0 Friday night at Tal Anderson Field. The foes continue their three-game series with single games Saturday at 6 p.m. CT and Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
In a battle of pitching aces, Golden Eagles right-hander Easton Teel (3-1) scattered three hits over seven shutout innings to earn the win, while Omaha's
Maddox Meyer fell behind early and was tagged with the loss (2-3).
Oral Roberts (19-12, 10-0 Summit) took the lead in the opening frame on Wailele Kane Yates' solo home run. It was only the second time in seven starts this season that Meyer has given up a first-inning run. ORU added two runs in the second inning and chased Meyer in a six-run fifth inning.
Omaha (10-16, 6-4) scratched out just four hits on singles by
Cardel Dick,
Henry Zipay,
Tyler Bishop and
Sam Beck. Zipay finished 1 for 3 at the plate, extending his season-long hitting streak to 13 games.
