ST. PAUL, Minn. — After pounding out 13 hits in support of
Maddox Meyer's solid starting effort in an eight-inning, 12-2 game one win, Omaha settled for a doubleheader split with St. Thomas in Summit League baseball Saturday at Koch Diamond in St. Paul. The Tommies won game two, 15-3, in seven innings.
On a day that began with a wind chill of 22 degrees, Omaha's sophomore pitcher Meyer scattered six hits over a career-high seven innings, allowing just two runs with three strikeouts and one walk, improving to 3-4 on the season.
All nine batters in the starting lineup tallied at least one hit in game one, while seven different Mavericks drove in at least one run. Sophomore DH
Nick Riggs went 2 for 4 with a homer (2), two RBI and three runs scored. Junior catcher
Cardel Dick also went 2 for 4 with a double and a home run (3), driving in three and scoring three runs. Junior outfielder
Hayden Lewis had three hits, including a double, and drove in a pair, while fifth-year first baseman
Jackson Trout had two RBI.
Tyler Bishop,
Drew Borner and
Sam Beck each added RBI.
Game two was a different story, as St. Thomas got to starter
Tanner Foertsch with two-out rallies in each of the first two innings, jumping to a 4-0 lead. Trout tripled in a pair of runs in the third inning and Beck was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth, but that was all the offense the Mavericks could muster in game two as they were held to four hits.
The Mavericks (9-15, 5-3) and Tommies (5-20, 2-5) meet in the rubber game of the weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. All Summit League games are streamed live on the Summit League Network via Midco Sports.
The Mavericks finish a seven-game road stretch with a three-game series at South Dakota State from April 2-4 before returning home to Tal Anderson Field on April 10 to face Oral Roberts.
