TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UNO baseball suffered a heartbreaking loss on Friday, falling 2-1 to Indiana State on a walk-off home run at Bob Warn Field. The Mavericks are now 11-31 on the year, while the Sycamores improve to 33-10.
Devin Moore (3-3) earned the win, allowing no hits and striking out two in the final inning. The loss went to
Curtis Smith (2-5) after Ryan Walterhouse's fifth homer of the season in the ninth.
UNO starter
Andrew Reck (2-5) threw seven shutout innings while scattering three hits with a strikeout. ISU's Dakota Bacus (5-4) surrendered one run on four hits over eight innings, fanning eight while issuing no walks.
Sophomore
Caleb Palensky went 1-for-4 with his second home run of the season. ISU was led by Walterhouse, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI on his roundtripper.
After five scoreless innings, Palensky broke the silence in the sixth, delivering a solo home run over the right field wall to put UNO up 1-0.
Indiana State managed a double by Robby Ort in the sixth and a single by Walterhouse in the seventh, but the Sycamores were unable to plate a run until the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Hedges drew a walk to put one runner on. Walterhouse proved the hero of the game, sending a two-run shot out of left field to capture the 2-1 win for ISU.
