Series History
UNO leads the all-time series 75-11. The Mavericks and Coyotes played twice in Omaha on April 4, with UNO taking an 11-0 (5 inn.) win in game one and South Dakota evening up the series with a 2-0 win in game two. Prior to this year's series, the last time the Mavs and Coyotes had played was in 2008 at the NCC Tournament, which UNO won 4-3 in eight innings.
Scouting South Dakota (13-34, 9-9)
South Dakota, in its first year of Summit League play, is 13-34 with a 9-9 conference record. The Coyotes primarily throw Erica Denney and Missy Blackburn. Denney is 8-16 with a 3.59 ERA, while Blackburn is 4-12 with a 5.56 ERA. Katie Dinning hits .300 with four doubles and five triples to her credit. Alexa Rudeen hits .257 with three home runs and a team-high 16 RBIs. Morgan Hancock and Allie Daly have each hit five home runs this season. South Dakota is coming off a split with North Dakota on Saturday, while the Mavs swept North Dakota on Sunday. The Coyotes are 1-6 in their last seven games.
Senior Day Sweep
On Sunday, UNO closed out its home slate with a Senior Day sweep of North Dakota, 2-0 and 8-3.
Dana Elsasser pitched her seventh shutout of the season in game one and every Maverick starter had a hit in game two.
Lutmerjack
Amber Lutmer hit back-to-back grand slams in an 11-0 win over South Dakota on April 4. Her eight RBIs in the game matched the school record, which has been reached four times in school history, most recently by Jenifer McDowell in 2007. Lutmer has hit nine home runs and has 28 RBIs in her last 10 games. The sophomore has upped her team-leading home run total from two to 11 in the last three weeks and now ranks eighth in school history in career home runs with 22.
Mavs Among Nation's Best in ERA
Although UNO can't officially count in NCAA statistics because of its transition to Division I, the Mavericks would rank ninth nationally with a 1.39 ERA. Oklahoma and South Florida lead the nation with a 0.92 ERA.
Dana Elsasser ranks second nationally with a 0.85 ERA. Elsasser has allowed just one earned run in her last six starts.
Hot Bats
In the 10 games since UNO lost twice to North Dakota on March 25, the Mavs have hit .321 at the plate and have outscored opponents 59-14.
Amber Lutmer is leading the way with 16 hits - nine of them home runs - and a .552 average. Lutmer also has 28 of the Mavs' 56 RBIs in that span.
Molly Negrete is hitting .433 since the GWC Cluster, and
Lauren Larson is hitting .394.
