OMAHA, Neb. –– Omaha Softball hits the road for the first time in Summit League action when the Mavericks head to Grand Forks, North Dakota to face the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at Albrecht Field. Due to inclement weather forecasted in the Grand Forks area, the series will now be played as a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 5, followed by a single game at noon CT on Monday, April 6.

The Mavericks (24-7, 6-0 Summit) sit alone atop the Summit League standings through the first two weekends of conference action. Omaha, ranked No. 2 in the D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings and No. 3 in the Softball America Mid-Major Power Rankings, has won eight straight, including a three-game shutout sweep over Kansas City. Omaha outscored the Roos 27-0 over the three-game set.

Senior right-handed pitcher Alexis Wiggins earned her first career Kwik Star Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week honor after tossing eight shutout innings over two outings last week, allowing just three hits in 28 Kansas City batters faced. She held the Roos' leadoff hit to just 1-for-8 at the plate and contributed four strikeouts.

Wiggins leads Omaha pitchers with a 10-1 record this season.

Omaha's offense was red-hot against Kansas City as the Mavericks laced seven home runs to push the season total to 53, tying last year's count and fourth all-time at Omaha. Omaha had four home runs in the series finale last Sunday.

Senior transfers Bailey Sample and Taylor Sedlacek lead the Mavericks with 10 multi-hit games each. Sample has the Mavericks' longest active hit steak at five consecutive games. Katherine Johnson's 12 multi-RBI games lead the Mavericks, while three (Ava Rongisch, Alyson Edwards and Sample) have reached base safely in 12 straight games.

Following the Mavericks' dominant performance last weekend, the team was named Softball on SI's Team of the Week, the first time Omaha received the nod.

After the series against the Fighting Hawks, Omaha continues on the road, facing St. Thomas beginning April 10 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
