OMAHA, Neb. –– Omaha Softball, winners of eight straight, have been ranked second in the week nine D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings and third in the Softball America mid-major poll, it was revealed Monday.
The Mavericks (24-7, 6-0 Summit), the lone team atop the Summit League standings through the first two weekends, enter a six-game road trip after completing a 27-0 three-game shutout of Kansas City at
Connie Claussen Field.
Senior
Emma Durr shined offensively, belting a pair of home runs for five RBI against the Roos.
Maddia Groff and
Alexis Wiggins handled most of the action in the circle, combining for 16.1 innings pitched and 15 strikeouts. Freshman
Hailey Boltz made her pitching debut for the Mavericks, retiring three of the four batters she faced in one inning of work.
Wiggins (10-1) has tossed three shutouts in 17 appearances (10 starts) and has held opposing batters to a team-best .232 average at the plate. The Adams, Nebraska native has struck out 27 in 50 innings.
As a team,
Mike Heard's squad ranks eighth in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.58), one of only three mid-major programs in the top 10 (Belmont and Grand Canyon).
Omaha launched seven home runs vs. Kansas City, boosting the season total to 53 with 14 regular-season games remaining. The team has tied its 2025 season total, good for fourth all-time at Omaha.
The Mavericks are 18-2 this season in games decided by five or more runs. Omaha improves to 11-1 in shutouts in 2026.
The three-time defending Summit League champions hit the road for the first time in conference play, facing North Dakota in Grand Forks for a three-game set beginning Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. CT on the Summit League Network. Omaha is 66-10 (.870) all-time against the Fighting Hawks.
