MADISON, Wis. - UNO freshman forward
Jayson Megna was named to the WCHA's All-Rookie Team. The announcement came as part of the league's annual year-end awards.
Megna is UNO's leading rookie scorer and is tied for third in freshman scoring for all games played with 13 goals and 18 assists for 31 points. He ranks third in scoring for UNO and leads the team with a +14 rating. The native of Northbrook, Ill. has 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in WCHA games, ranking fourth.
He is the only Maverick to be named to either the All-Rookie Team or the WCHA's First-, Second- or Third-Teams.
Minnesota Duluth's Jack Connolly was named the WCHA's Player of the Year for earning 43 points in league play. Wisconsin defenseman Justin Schultz was named the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Year while Denver freshman defenseman Joey LaLeggia was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year.
Connolly reigns as WCHA scoring champion while Minnnesota's Kent Patterson is the WCHA's Goaltending Champion. Michigan Tech head coach Mel Pearson was named the WCHA's Coach of the Year.
North Dakota goalie Brad Eidsness was named the WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete.
Also, 15 Mavericks were named to the WCHA's All-Academic Team. To earn a spot, the player must have completed at least one year at his school and have achieve a grade-point average of 3.0 or better. The Mavericks to make the team included

UNO had the third-most members of the team behind Bemidji State and Denver which had 18 each.

The Mavericks begin the WCHA Playoffs on Friday night when they begin a best-of-three series at St. Cloud State. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m. from the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
