Final Stats
Conway, S.C. - Behind a dominating effort from pitcher
Dana Elsasser, the UNO softball team beat Dartmouth 5-1 to wrap up play at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sunday morning.
The Mavs finished the tournament with a 2-1 record and now stand at 4-6 on the year. Dartmouth dropped to 1-2 this season.
Elsasser (2-3) went the distance, allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out seven. The Big Green scored their only run in the fifth inning and had two runners on, but Elsasser escaped the inning with no further damage done.
In the bottom of the second,
Katelyn Hinton hit a two-out, bases-loaded double to right field to score
Lindsay Redding,
Emma Wright and
Mara Eeman. Hinton, batting in the leadoff spot this weekend, provided what would prove to be all the offense Elsasser needed.
Still, the Mavs tacked on two more insurance runs in the fourth inning. Redding singled, then worked her way around the bases by stealing second and taking third on a passed ball. After
Ashley Lynch walked, the Mavs pulled off a double steal. Lynch sprinted to second, and as the throw from the catcher failed to beat Lynch, Redding trotted home to make it 4-0.
Lauren Larson then drew a walk, and both she and Lynch moved up a base on a wild pitch. Lutmer then walked to load the bases, and
Tonya Peterson drew a walk to score Lynch and make it 5-0. The Mavs finished the inning with two runs on just one hit after drawing four walks with two outs gone in the inning.
Redding finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored for UNO. She also stole two bases. Lynch went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Negrete went 1-for-3 with a double.
The Mavs will now play at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., March 11-15. UNO will play 10 games in a span of five days before returning home for its first home game at the new Westside Field at Westbrook against Nebraska on March 20.
