ST. PAUL, Minn. — Omaha Softball used a four-run fourth inning to take command of a 4-0 win over St. Thomas on Friday in a matchup of the top two teams in the Summit League.
Omaha (25-7, 7-0 Summit) stretched its winning streak to nine games, while St. Thomas (24-11) fell to 5-2 in conference play.
Omaha ace Maddia Groff allowed only singles in the fourth and seventh innings as the left-hander threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.
She surpassed 100 strikeouts for the season as she earned her 10th victory. She also has eight complete games this season.
Playing in its first game since March 29, Omaha stranded a pair of runners in the first and third innings before manufacturing a four-run rally in the fourth.
Marra Cramer and Alyson Edwards led off the fourth with singles before Sammy Schmidt's sacrifice fly scored Cramer.
After Ava Rongisch drew a walk, Emma Durr and Rylinn Groff delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Taylor Sedlacek capped the inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Durr.
Durr was the only Maverick with a multi-hit game as she went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Batting ninth in Omaha's lineup, Durr has gone 5 for 10 with six RBIs during the last four games.
Omaha and St. Thomas continue their series at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
