DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs got two goals from Travis Oleksuk in the first period to beat the UNO Mavericks, 4-1, on Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.
The Mavericks fall to 20-13-3 overall and 16-9-2 in the WCHA, dropping them to fourth place. The Bulldogs improve to 20-8-6 overall and 15-7-5 in league play. The Mavericks and Bulldogs will finish the regular season on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.
The Bulldogs got an early power play and took advantage when Oleksuk knocked in a pass from Kyle Schmidt just 2:38 into the game.
The Mavericks tied the game at 11:41 when #Terry Broadhurst broke down the right wing and feathered a pass across to Johnnie Searfoss# who knocked in his ninth goal of the year.
But just 21 seconds later, Oleksuk and Schmidt clicked again netting Oleksuk his second goal of the night to make it 2-1.
Then with a late power play, the Bulldogs stretched their lead when Justin Faulk pinched in from the near point and squeezed a shot through the pads of #John Faulkner# to make it 3-1 after one.
Minnesota Duluth padded its lead in the second period when David Grun took advantage of a UNO turnover and fired a shot under the crossbar for his third goal of the year.
UNO outshot the Bulldogs 13-10 in the third period but couldn't draw any closer.
Faulkner finished the game with 31 saves while Kenny Reiter made 29 for UMD as the Bulldogs outshot the Mavericks, 35-30.
