SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The 23rd-ranked UNO softball team won its seventh and eighth straight games on Saturday, picking up two wins at the MIAA Crossover North over Pittsburg State, 9-1, and Missouri Southern, 22-4 in five innings.
The Mavericks improved to 18-4 with the wins and are 4-0 at the tournament, with two more games awaiting on Sunday.
The 22 runs scored against Missouri Southern is the second-best total in school history. UNO set a school record with six home runs in the game and its 21 RBIs also set a school record. UNO also tied the school record for most hits in a game with 22.
The Mavs put up 14 runs in the first inning to take control. #
Lauren Larson# began the onslaught with a two-run homer. Two batters later, #
Lindsey Slocum# added a two-run blast to make it 4-0. After the Mavericks batted around, Larson hit her second home run of the inning, a three-run shot. #
Alli Hukill# followed Larson's second homer with one of her own for a school-record four home runs in one inning.
In the second inning, #
Emma Wright nailed a three-run homer to left field. Molly Negrete# capped the scoring with a pinch-hit grand slam in the third inning, the first home run of her career. #
Beth Haley# picked up the win in the circle. Larson finished with five RBIs, while Wright and Negrete each had four.
In the win over Pittsburg State earlier in the day, the Mavs got home runs from #
Ashley Lynch and Amber Lutmer#, while Slocum went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
UNO closes tournament play on Sunday against Emporia State at 10 a.m., and vs. Lincoln at 12 p.m.
