OMAHA, Neb. — Shortstop Taylor Sedlacek hit a pair of two-run home runs as Omaha Softball completed a 7-0 homestand with a 10-0 six-inning victory over Kansas City on Sunday at Connie Claussen Field.
Omaha didn't allow a run during the three-game sweep of Kansas City. The Mavericks (24-7, 6-0 Summit) recorded five shutouts during the homestand, outscoring the Roos 27-0.
Omaha also hit four home runs on the day, but head coach Mike Heard felt everything started in the circle.
"We always focus on defense and pitching, and man, that's really showed," Heard said. "I don't think our pitchers had a walk all three games."
Maddia Groff and Alexis Wiggins combined on a four-hitter Sunday as both went three innings. They combined to retire 13 Roos in a row during one stretch.
At the plate, Omaha set the tone as it sent 10 batters to the plate in a four-run first inning.
Rylinn Groff led off with a walk, and then Sedlacek hit a high drive over the fence in left-center.
Omaha loaded the bases with two outs, and Ava Rongisch then lined a two-run single to center field for a 4-0 lead.
Alyson Edwards made it 5-0 when she led off the third inning with a line-drive home run to left-center. It was the sophomore's sixth homer.
Sedlacek added her second homer in the sixth. It was a long drive down the left-field line that landed deep in the bullpen. In her first season with Omaha, Sedlacek has a team-best 13 homers.
"She is just so steady," Heard said of Sedlacek. "You don't see much change in her. I didn't see any changes in her at-bats and her approach today."
Omaha's fourth homer of the day ended the game. With two runners on in the sixth, Haley Wilwerding hit a line drive toward the left-field corner that just cleared the fence for a three-run homer.
That was Omaha's 53rd home run this season. A year ago, when Omaha went 40-13, it finished with 53 home runs.
Omaha next is scheduled to play at North Dakota to begin a Summit League series at 6 p.m. CT Thursday.
