SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The No. 23 UNO softball team opened tournament play at the MIAA Crossover North with two wins on Friday. UNO took down Central Missouri, 1-0, in its opener, then knocked off Southwest Baptist, 9-1, in five innings.
The Mavericks are now 16-4 on the year and have won six straight. This weekend's games do not count toward the MIAA standings.

Beth Haley#, after being named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Friday, extended her shutout streak to 22 innings with a complete game, four-hit, six-strikeout performance against Central Missouri. The Mavs scored the lone run of the game when #
Katelyn Hinton walked with the bases loaded in the second inning to score Amber Lutmer from third. Lindsey Slocum and Ashley Lynch# each hit doubles in the game, as the Mavs collected only three hits but still got the win.
In the much more lopsided 9-1 romp over Southwest Baptist, Slocum struck out 12 in the five-inning game. Hinton went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. #
Lauren Larson#, Lynch and Slocum all had two hits. Slocum got the Mavs rolling with a lead-off home run in the second inning.
UNO continues play on Saturday with a 10 a.m., game vs. Pittsburg State and a 12 p.m., game vs. Missouri Southern.
