Terry Broadhurst scored his second goal of the night with less than three minutes remaining to give the No. 19 UNO Mavericks a 4-3 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday night at the CenturyLink Center.
The win improves the Mavericks to 7-6-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the WCHA. St. Cloud State drops to 6-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference. The two teams conclude the series on Sunday afternoon at 2:07 p.m.
On the goal, Matt White made two strong plays to keep the puck in at the left point. He fed the puck down low to Alex Hudson who slipped the puck back door to Broadhurst who fired in his 14th goal of the year, a new career high.
The Mavericks had entered the third period with a 3-2 lead, but Cam Reid tied it for St. Cloud State when he threw a wrist shot past UNO goaltender
Ryan Massa at 5:42.
St. Cloud State opened the scoring just as its first power play of the game expired. Travis Novak threw a pass across the top of the crease. Cory Thorson outbattled a UNO defender and redirected the puck past Massa for his fourth goal of the year.
The Mavericks tied the game on a power play early in the second.
Jayson Megna, stationed near the goal line, whipped the puck across the crease. It hit the skate of SCSU goalie Ryan Faragher and ricocheted into the net.
UNO took its first lead of the game when Broadhurst broke down the right wing and dropped the puck to
Michael Young whose shot was stopped. Young tracked down the rebound and fed it back to Broadhurst who fired the puck through Faragher's pads.
Ben Hanowski tied the game, stickhandling through traffic before beating Massa with a wrist shot from the low slot at 15:20.
Hudson restored the one-goal lead before the period ended when he raced down the right wing and fired a shot under the crossbar for his third goal of the year.
The Maverick have now won three straight games against the Huskies dating back to last season. They evened the all-time series with the Huskies at 4-4-1.
