Beavers Rally To Tie Mavericks, 3-3

Box Score Box Score

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State's Jordan George scored with 59 seconds remaining in regulation to help his team salvage a 3-3 tie with the UNO Mavericks on Friday night at the Sanford Center.

With the tie, the Mavericks are now 5-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.  The Beavers are 4-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league play.

With goaltender Dan Bakala pulled for the extra attacker, George walked down the right wing, pulled up and fired a shot that seemed to be deflected.  It knuckled past UNO goalie Ryan Massa with 58.3 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Mavericks had a power play in overtime, one of five in the game, but couldn't convert.

UNO opened the scoring at 7:48 of the first period.  Brent Gwidt angled a pass off the wall to set Jayson Megna and Josh Archibald free on a two-on-one break.  Megna feathered a pass across to Archibald who slammed home his fourth of the year.

The Beavers tied the game late in the first when Ben Kinne broke in with Shea Walters.  Kinne tried to pass to Walters but the puck deflected back to him.  He fired a shot that beat Massa to make it 1-1 after one.

Bemidji State took its first lead of the night just 45 seconds into the second period when Brady Wacker took advantage of a broken play.  He scored through a screen to make it 2-1.

The Mavericks tied the game later on a power play.  Bryce Aneloski took a shot from the right point that missed, but Terry Broadhurst collected the rebound and popped it past Bakala for his team-leading ninth goal of the year.

UNO retook the lead in the closing seconds of the period.  Gwidt feathered a pass through two defensemen to Jayson Megna who steered the puck off the post and past Bakala to make it 3-2.

The Mavs outshot the Beavers, 43-25.  UNO is now winless in its last seven games against BSU (0-5-2).

The two teams finish the weekend series on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m.
