Mavs Win Twice Thursday to Set Up Showdown With ES

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - #Lindsey Slocum and Katelyn Hinton# each drove in two runs in the fourth inning to help the Mavs top Missouri Western, 6-1 Thursday and advance to the semifinal of the MIAA postseason tournament at Blue Valley Sports Complex. Nebraska-Omaha (47-9) won twice Thursday, defeating Truman, 1-0 in the first round.

The Mavericks will face Emporia State Friday at 3 p.m. for a chance to advance to Saturday's championship round. UNO and ESU shared the MIAA regular season title.

The Mavs got two hits and took advantage of two errors in the fourth. Slocum hit a two-run home run to drive in #Lindsay Redding and Kristi Meneely#. Redding pinch ran for #Julia Krejci who led off the inning by reaching on an error. Emma Wright later reached on an error and Alli Hukill# walked and then Hinton hit a triple down the rightfield line to drive them in.

UNO was down early after the Griffons scored one in the first off two hits.

Hukill then hit her team-leading 12th home run in the bottom of the second to tie it. She moved into a tie for fifth in UNO single-season homers.

#Emma Wright drove in Jamie Nash# in the third to give UNO a 2-1 lead.

Slocum improved to 18-2 with the win in the circle. She allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.

A sacrifice fly from Slocum was all the Mavs needed in the first round game. Her drive in the third inning scored #Molly Feichtinger#.

MIAA pitcher of the year #Beth Haley# got the shutout, allowing four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. She improved to 21-2.

The Mavs improved their school-record winning streak to 27 straight games.
