Box Score

OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO Mavericks erupted for four goals in the second period and raced to a 6-1 win over Bowling Green in game one of their best-of-three, first round CCHA Playoff series.  #Joey Martin#, #Terry Broadhurst and Alex Hudson# each had a goal and an assist.

The two teams will play the second game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.  If the Mavericks win, they will move on to the second round of the CCHA Playoffs next weekend.

Leading 2-1 coming into the second period, Hudson started the barrage, scoring off a feed from Broadhurst at 1:48.

Just 41 seconds later, Martin broke down the right wing and passed to #Mark Bernier# who wired a shot past goalie Andrew Hammond to make it 4-1.  That goal chased Hammond who was replaced by Nick Eno.

Eno fared no better as UNO capitalized on a pair of power plays in the period.  #Matt Ambroz# flipped the puck to Martin from behind the net, and Martin knocked in his tenth goal of the year to make it 5-1.

#John Kemp# closed the second-period scoring, converting a pass from Hudson on a later power play to make it 6-1 after two.

#Jeremie Dupont# protected the lead with several strong saves in the third period as the Falcons fired 13 shots on goal.  Dupont finished with 25 saves.  Hammond took the loss with four goals against in 22:29 of action.

Bowling Green actually had the first lead of the game when a backhander by Tomas Petruska broke off the shoulder of Dupont and trickled into the net.

The Mavericks answered back on their first power play of the game when Broadhurst banked in a shot from the goal line for his 13th of the year just 2:06 after Petruska's goal.

#Dan Swanson# scored the eventual game-winner when he picked off an errant clearing pass, walked in alone and beat Hammond for an unassisted goal that made it 2-1 after one.

The Mavericks are now 6-0 all-time against Bowling Green in the playoffs, and they improved to 15-3-2 this season at home.
