BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State Beavers scored two third period goals to break a 1-1 tie and pull away for a 3-1 win over the UNO Mavericks on Saturday night at the Sanford Center. The Beavers became the first team to sweep the Mavericks in the weekend series.
UNO is now 9-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the WCHA while Bemidji State improves to 5-8-1 and 4-7-1 in league play.
UNO got on the board first. Working a perfect breakout, #Alex Hudson sprung Johnnie Searfoss and Joey Martin# up the left wing. They worked a quick give-and-go, and Searfoss finished it off with a sharp-angle shot for his fifth goal of the year.
The Beavers tied the game in the final second of the middle period. While on the power play, Matt Reed walked down the slot and fanned on his shot, but the puck kept moving toward the net where Ian Lowe tapped in his team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Bemidji State took its first lead at 3:14 of the third, getting an unassisted goal from Aaron McLeod.
Jordan George iced the game when he fired home his sixth goal of the year at 15:31.
#John Faulkner# made 26 saves while his counterpart, Dan Bakala, stopped 39 shots at the other end to earn the win.
The Mavericks return home to host Michigan Tech on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 9 and 10. Both games start at 7:37 p.m. from Qwest Center Omaha. The two games are the final two at home for UNO before the New Year.
