BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Ferris State Bulldogs rode a three-goal outburst in the second period to a 3-1 win over the UNO hockey team on Saturday night at Ewigleben Ice Arena. The win gave the Bulldogs a sweep of the weekend series after a 2-0 win on Friday night.
The Mavericks are now 7-6-3 overal and 4-6-2-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Mavericks continue their five-game road trip at Alaska on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12. Face off is 10:05 p.m. CT each night from the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Bulldogs broke the ice at 4:43 of the second period when Jordie Johston cut down the right wing and roofed a shot over #John Faulkner# for his first goal of the season.
Ferris State's dangerous powerplay got going later in the period as Brett Wysopal and Cody Chupp scored goals just 1:32 apart to balloon the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0.
UNO got one back when #Joey Martin stole the puck and fed Nick Fanto# who wired home a shorthanded goal to make it 3-1 after two periods.
The two teams played through a contentious third period that featured nine powerplays, seven of them for Ferris State.
Faulkner finished with a new team season-high 36 saves.
