EAST LANSING, Mich. – The UNO hockey team got a goal from freshman #Terry Broadhurst# in the fourth round of the shootout to earn an extra point against Michigan State in the final game of their two-game series.  The teams had skated to a 3-3 tie through overtime.

The Mavericks are now 4-1-3 overall and 1-1-2-1 in CCHA play.  They return to action on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14 as they host Lake Superior State.

UNO trailed 1-0 in the shootout after the second round but got a clutch goal from John Kemp in the third round to force the extra round.

The game was forced to overtime and the shootout when Michigan State's Nick Sucharski scored a powerplay goal with 8:04 gone in the third.

The Spartans struck first in the game when defenseman Brock Shelgren threw a shot on goal that rattled off one of a Maverick defender at the ten minute mark of the first period.

UNO responded just 1:53 later when Matt Ambroz finished off a tic-tac-toe play with Broadhurst and #Joey Martin#.  Ambroz banged home his second goal of the year to make it 1-1.  It was UNO's first goal against Spartans' netminder Drew Palmisano in more than 70 minutes of hockey.

State retook the lead early in the second period when Chris Forfar knocked in the rebound of a shot by Mike Merrifield.

The Mavs answered when #Brent Gwidt# threw a shot on goal that broke off Palmisano and rolled across the line for his first collegiate goal at 5:34 of the period.

UNO then got a five-minute power play when Dean Chelios was ejected from the game for checking from behind.  The Mavs got their first lead of the series when #Eddie DelGrosso# sprung Martin who fired a wrist shot past Palmisano to make it 3-2 after 2.

#Jeremie Dupont# made 29 saves and three of four stops in the shootout.  He is now 1-0-1 on the season.
