HAMILTON, N.Y. – The UNO hockey team got 27 saves from goaltender #John Faulkner# to forge a 1-1 tie with Colgate University on Friday night at Starr Rink.  #Joey Martin# scored the only goal for the Mavericks who are now 2-0-1 on the season.  Colgate is 1-0-2.

It was the first road game of the season for UNO.  The two teams will square off again on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6:00 p.m. CT.

The Mavericks broke on top at 8:47 of the first period when Martin finished off an odd-man rush with a shot that beat goalie Alex Evin to the top corner.  #Nick Fanto and Dan Swanson# earned assists.

Colgate came out flying in the second period and tied the game when Kurtis Bartliff knocked in his first collegiate goal off a hardworking assist from preseason All-American pick David McIntyre at 4:29.

The game stayed tied thanks to the work of Faulkner who was busiest in the middle stanza with 11 saves.  The Mavericks survived four Colgate power plays in the second period and another in overtime.  They killed off all six of the Red Raiders' man advantages in the game, their first perfect night of penalty killing in the young season.
