OMAHA, Neb. – #Rich Purslow# scored two third period goals to help lead the No. 18-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team to a 4-3 win over Northern Michigan University in CCHA action Friday night at Qwest Center Omaha.

The Mavericks improve to 13-6-3 overall and 7-4-3-2 in CCHA play, while the Wildcats fall to 5-13-3, 2-10-3-2 in the CCHA.

#Joey Martin# put the Mavericks on top midway through the first frame, when he took a pass from #John Kemp# and beat NMU goalie Brian Stewart for the early one-goal lead.

The Wildcats managed to tie the game at one, on a delayed penalty, by Tim Hartung at 17:05 in the first period.

UNO reclaimed the lead in the second period on a goal by #Matt Ambroz# who scored off a loose puck in the front of the net at 15:26.

NMU would answer back on a shorthanded goal by Mark Olver with under two minutes remaining in the second period to even things up at two heading into the final period.

Purslow gave the Mavericks the lead for good when he took a pass from #Dan Charleston# and chipped it in past Stewart, giving UNO a 3-2 advantage. Purslow gave the Mavericks a much needed insurance goal at 17:52 in the final frame on a power play goal, giving UNO a two-goal lead. #Tomas Klempa and Mike Phillippi# were credited with the assists.

After pulling their goalie, the Wildcats were able to get cut the Mavericks lead in half just 23 seconds later off a slapshot from the blueline by Nick Sirota at 18:15 in the third. But that's the closest NMU would get as the Mavericks were able to hold on for the 4-3 win.

#Jeremie Dupont# collected 32 saves on the night to improve to 6-3-2 on the year. Stewart had 29 saves for the Wildcats.

The Mavericks will continue their weekend series with NMU tomorrow night. Face-off is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Qwest Center Omaha.
