OMAHA, Neb. – For the second consecutive night, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Alaska Nanooks needed a shootout to decide its outcome, with the Nanooks winning the shootout, 2-1 Saturday night at Qwest Center Omaha.
The game will officially go down as a 1-1 tie, with UNO (9-4-3, 5-4-2-3 CCHA) earning one point for the tie, while Alaska earns two points for the shootout win and improves to 8-4-4 overall and 6-3-2-2 in CCHA play.
After skating to two scoreless periods, Alaska scored the first goal of the series on a shorthanded goal by Adam Naglich who beat a sprawling #
Jerad Kaufmann# at 12:09 in the third period.
UNO answered back just one minute later when #
Matt Smith# unloaded a shot near center ice that snuck by goalie Chad Johnson, 13:10 in the third frame.
In overtime, neither team could produce much offense, with Alaska tallying the only shot on goal, forcing the game into a shootout.

Joey Martin and John Kemp each couldn't get anything by Johnson. Dan Charleston# answered back to tie the shootout at 1-1, but Kevin Petovello ended the shootout when he beat Kaufmann for a 2-1 shootout win.
The game played even throughout, with Alaska holding a slight edge in shots, 26-23.
The Mavericks will return to the ice next week when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. for a weekend series with Lake Superior State on Dec. 12-13. Both games are slated for a 6:05 p.m. face-off.
