PRINCETON, N.J. – The 8th-ranked Princeton University Tigers scored three second-period goals en route to a 5-1 non-conference win over the 15th and 16th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks Tuesday night at the Hobey Baker Memorial Ice Rink in Princeton, N.J.

One night after hanging eight goals on Yale, the Mavericks were held to a single goal by Princeton goalie Zane Kalemba. The Mavericks remain winless against the Tigers in program history, dropping their fifth straight decision to Princeton.

UNO ends the 2008 half of its schedule at 12-5-3, while Princeton moves to 12-2-0 on the season.

The Tigers drew first blood 6:11 into the first period on a Taylor Fedun short-handed marker. Princeton would hold the lead until late in the period when #Nick Von Bokern# evened things at 1-1.  He ripped a slap shot through traffic and past the Kalemba with just twenty-two seconds remaining in the frame.

Princeton grabbed a 2-1 lead when a pass deflected off a Tiger skate and past UNO goalie Jerad Kaufmann at the 1:24 mark of the second.  The Tigers then capitalized on a pair of Maverick miscues to break open the game.  A Princeton power-play goal at 18:26 and a second short-handed score at 19:49 pushed the lead to 4-1 at the second intermission.

The Tigers held off UNO in the third and were able to put the contest away with a second goal from Lee Jubinville at 18:57 on a four-on-three Princeton power play.

The Mavericks wrap up their holiday road trip on Saturday, Jan. 3 with a game at 17th-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato. UNO swept last year's home-and-home series with MSU, winning 6-3 at the Qwest Center Omaha in December before taking a 4-2 decision in Mankato late in February. This year's contest in Mankato is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CST face-off and will be broadcast live by 1290 KKAR.

*** Maverick Note…Head coach #Mike Kemp announced that defenseman Alain Goulet# has left the team to sign with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In his time at UNO, Goulet played in a total of 54 games and amassed 19 points on eight goals and eleven assists. An offensive-minded defenseman, Goulet developed into an instrumental component in the Maverick power play with seven of his eight career goals scored when UNO had a man advantage.
