KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team grabbed an early lead and never looked back Saturday night, topping the Broncos of Western Michigan University 5-2 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action at the Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Junior defenseman #Eddie DelGrosso# extended his streak of games with two assists to four, while seniors #Tomas Klempa and Dan Charleston# fueled the Mavericks offensive assault with a combined three goals on the night as the Mavs head home with four points on the weekends.

UNO is off the best start in school history, sporting a record of 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-1-1 in CCHA action, while the loss sends WMU to 1-6-3, 0-3-3-1 on the year.

The Mavericks picked up right where they left off Friday, dominating the action in Saturday's first period and playing a majority of the time in the Bronco's zone. DelGrosso opened up the scoring in the first, giving UNO a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 16:36 into the stanza. Less then two minutes later senior Tomas Klempa pushed the Maverick lead to 2-0 with a second power-play goal at 18:13.

UNO extended its lead to three on a Charleston power-play marker 7:35 into the second period, but saw that advantage dwindle to one as the Bronco's got goals from Derek Roehl at 8:16 and Ian Slater at 19:15. #Nick Fanto# answered for the Mavs right before the second intermission, putting the Mavs back out front by two with a goal 19:46 into the frame.

The Mavs effectively wrapped things up just seconds into the third, putting the game out of reach, 5-2, on Klempa's second score of the night at :33 of the period.

Senior goalie #Jerad Kaufmann# turned away 30 shots on the night to improve to 4-0-0 on the year, matching the best start by a UNO goalie since Chirs Holt in 2004-05.

UNO returns home next weekend, Nov. 15-16, for a two-game CCHA series against the Ferris State Bulldogs.  Game time both nights is 7:05 p.m.
