UNO Hits The Road For A Showdown In Kalamazoo

The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team heads to Kalamazoo, Mich. this weekend, Nov. 7-8, for a two game-series with the Broncos of Western Michigan University.

The Mavericks (5-1-0, 1-1-0-0) have won four straight against the Broncos (1-5-2, 0-2-2-1), including a sweep of WMU in Kalamazoo a year ago.

Last Week Recap
UNO took its undefeated record to Bowling Green, Ohio last week to take on the Falcons of BGSU. The Mavs split the weekend series, dropping the first game 3-2,then winning the second 5-3. Sophomore Joey Martin scored three goals on the weekend, and defenseman Eddie DelGrosso picked up four assists in the series. Junior goalie Jeremie Dupont set a career-high for saves in Fridays 3-2 loss, stopping 41 shots. The Broncos played a home and away series with Michigan State in which they lost the first game 3-1 and dropped the second game in a shootout 3-2.

The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp is in his 12th season at the helm of the Maverick hockey program. A native of Duluth, Minn. and 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus, Kemp brings a career mark of 184-207-49 into the 2008-09 season. He has amassed a record of 102-115-37 in CCHA play. WMU's Jim Culhane is in his ninth season behind the Bronco's bench with an overall record of 129-160-32 in his tenure in Kalamazoo.

The Series
The Mavericks have a 11-7-4 edge in the series with the Broncos, including a 5-4-3 advantage in Kalamazoo. UNO swept WMU in Kalamazoo a year ago and has recorded four consecutive victories over the Broncos during the last two seasons.

Both games this weekend will be broadcast live on KKAR 1290 AM with Greg Harrington calling the action and Terry Leahy providing color. Coverage begins 20 minutes before faceoff each night.  The game also can be heard online at omavs.com and can be viewed online through B2 Networks.

Coming Up

UNO returns home next weekend to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs. The Mavs will be honoring their parents during next weekend's series with a ceremony before Friday's contest. Faceoff for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15, is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CST.
