OMAHA, Neb. – Junior forward #Dan Swanson# scored twice and picked up a pair of assists to help lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team past Michigan State, 7-1, in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action Friday night at the Qwest Center Omaha.

The six-goal win was the largest margin of victory ever for the Mavericks over the Spartans, and moves the 19th-ranked Mavs to 8-2-1 overall and 4-2-1-1 in CCHA play. Meanwhile, MSU dropped its fifth game in a row and now stands at 4-7-2 and 2-5-2-2.

Seven different Mavericks scored multiple points on the night. Swanson led the way with four, while #Dan Charleston#, #Tomas Klempa#, #Eddie DelGrosso#, #Joey Martin#, #John Kemp and Rich Purslow# each had two points. Charleston, Martin, Kemp and Purslow all recorded a goal and an assist while Klempa and DelGrosso tallied two assists.

For the eighth time in 11 games this season, UNO allowed an opponent to score the first goal.  MSU grabbed a 1-0 lead 10:54 into the first period on a Kurt Kivisto goal. But Swanson evened the game at 1-1, chipping the puck past a sprawling Jeff Lerg and into the back of the MSU net with just two seconds showing on the clock.

Sophomore defenseman #Nick Von Bokern# scored the go-ahead goal 51 seconds into the second frame, blasting a slapshot from the blue line past Lerg. Swanson pushed UNO's lead to 3-1 before the second intermission with his second goal of the night off a nifty assist from Kemp at 6:15 of the period.

The Mavericks poured it on in the third, scoring a season-high four goals in the final stanza.

Martin kicked off the fireworks in the third with a power-play marker at 1:49, followed by even-strength scores at 10:38, 15:26 and 17:16 by Purslow, Kemp and Charleston, respectively.

The Mavericks and Spartans will wrap up their two-game series on Saturday night. Face-off for the second contest is set for 7:05 p.m., and will be broadcast live on 1290 AM KKAR and online via the B2 Network.
