Mavericks Return Home To Take On Ferris State

HK PDF Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha hockey team returns home this weekend, Nov. 14-15, to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs in a two-game CCHA series at the Qwest Center Omaha. Face-off is set for 7:05 p.m. CST each night.

The Mavericks will be honoring their parents in a brief ceremony prior to Saturday night's contest.

The Records

The Mavericks are off the best start in program history, sporting a 6-1-1 overall record and a 2-1-1-1 conference mark. They will look to continue their winning ways when the 4-3-3, 3-1-2-0 Bulldogs come to town this weekend. UNO holds a 13-7-2 advantage in the all-time series with FSU, claiming seven of the ten meetings in Omaha. The Mavericks split a two-game series with the Bulldogs at the Qwest Center Omaha a year ago, 1-5 and 2-0.

Last Week Recap
Technically, it will not go down as a sweep, but the Mavericks were able to take four points away from their weekend series against Western Michigan, winning a shootout 3-2 Friday and taking Saturday's contest 5-2 in regulation. Junior Eddie DelGrosso extended his streak of games with two assists to four games while adding his first goal of the season in Saturday night's win. On the other hand, Ferris State was able to take three points from Miami, losing a shootout Friday then coming back to win 2-1 on Saturday. The Bulldog's Casey Haines scored the game-winning shorthanded goal while Pat Nagle made 30 saves to lift FSU past the tenth-ranked RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio on Saturday.

The Coaches
Nebraska-Omaha's Mike Kemp, the only coach in the program's history, is in his 12th season at the helm of the Maverick hockey program. A native of Duluth, Minn. and 1975 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus, Kemp brings a career mark of 185-207-50 into the 2008-09 season. He has amassed a record of 103-115-38 in CCHA play. Bob Daniels, FSU's all-time winningest coach, is in his 17th year as the Head Coach of the Bulldogs, compiling a career record of 257-302-56 overall and 181-227-48 in CCHA action. Daniels was among the three finalists for the CCHA Coach of the Year honors as he guided the Bulldogs to an 18-16-5 season mark, FSU's best record since 2002-03.

Media
Both games this weekend will be broadcast live on 1290 AM KKAR with Greg Harrington calling the action and Terry Leahy providing color. Coverage begins 20 minutes before faceoff each night. All of UNO's home games will be webcast live on a pay-per-view basis via the B2 Network.

Coming Up
UNO will be back in action at the Qwest Center Omaha next weekend as they play host to another CCHA foe, 17th-ranked Michigan State. The Mavericks split a series in East Lansing last season, winning the first game 5-4 in overtime before dropping the second contest 4-2.
