Parse, Eickman Head List of Maverick Awards

All-American Scott Parse was named the most valuable player for a fourth straight year Sunday as the Maverick hockey team handed out its year-end awards.

Parse, a Hobey Baker Award finalist the past two years, led the team in scoring a fourth consecutive year with 24 goals and 28 assists for 52 points, leaving as the all-time leading scorer in UNO's 10-year history. Last week, he signed a 10-game contrct with the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffons. Parse, from Portage, Mich., also was named the team's most consistent player.

Senior defenseman Mike Eickman, a two-time winner of the CCHA's scholar athlete of the year award, was given the team's Student Athlete Award for a third straight year. Eickman, a third-team Academic All-American in 2006, will enter dentistry school later this year. The award is given to a player who exemplifies academic excellence while contributing to the team's overall success.

Other award-winners announced at the Sunday event included Brent Kisio as the most improved player; freshman goaltender Jeremie Dupont was named the newcomer of the year; Dan Charleston earned the 7th man award and Tomas Klempa won the Mike Rehmeier Biggest Heart Award.

Kisio, a senior from Calgary, Alta., had his most productive season in 2006-07, going from six games the previous year to 33 games, scoring five goals and four assists for the Mavericks.

Dupont earned the starting job between the pipes as the youngest Maverick ever to play for the team. He had 28 starts and appeared in 31 games, compiling a 13-10-6 mark with a 2.84 goals against average.

Charleston, a sophomore forward from Chicago, Ill., had 14 goals and 19 assists in 41 games. The 7th Man Award is given to the player who "best exemplifies team spirit, attitude, citizenship and the ability to overcome adversity."

Klempa, a sophomore forward from Slovokia, played in all 42 games for the Mavericks, scoring 11 goals to go with 19 assists. The award is given to the player who sets the " best example of hard work, dedication, work ethic, devotion to the team, making the most of their given skills, and the epitome of heart and soul of Maverick hockey."
