GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Augustana's second win over the Mavericks Saturday completed its undefeated cruise through the North Central Conference tournament. The Vikings edged UNO 3-1 Saturday afternoon in the championship game.

UNO will now await the selection of the field for the NCAA Division II tournament. Regional play will begin May 11 at a site to be determined. The announcement of the eight-team field and location will be made Monday morning. The No. 8 ranked Mavericks are now 45-11 on the season and are ranked No. 2 in the region.

Ally Rutherford's three-run homer in the fourth inning gave Katie Krauth all the support she needed to grab her fourth straight win of the tournament. The Mavericks gathered 10 hits and a walk against the senior, but stranded nine runners.

UNO's only run was Leslie Svoboda's 21st home run of the year with two out in the bottom of the seventh. Svoboda was 8-for-10 with two homers and four RBIs in UNO's three Saturday games.

The day began with a 2-0 win by the Vikings, dropping UNO into the elimination bracket. The Mavs responded with a 4-1 win over St. Cloud State to get back into the championship game.

Svoboda drove in three runs and belted her 20th home run of the season to keep the Mavericks in contention in the tournament and eliminate St. Cloud State.

Svoboda gave UNO a quick lead with a two-run homer in the top of the first against SCSU. She added an RBI single in a two-run third inning for a 4-0 lead. Svoboda also collected a single, going 3-for-3.

Cheris Kuster held St. Cloud State in check until the seventh when the Huskies strung together three singles and a walk. But the junior from Roca, Neb., got a strikeout before retiring the final two batters on fly balls to end the threat.

In the morning game, Krauth tossed a three-hitter and Augustana bunched three of its five hits in the fourth inning as the Vikings ended the Mavericks' 10-game winning streak, 2-0.

The Vikings spoiled a strong pitching performance by junior Taren Tuley in the fourth inning when Jessica Cooper and Liz Bartak opened the inning with singles. Kristi Villar then drew a walk before Krauth hit into a fielder's choice with Cooper getting forced at home. Rutherford then singled to left to score Bartak and Villar scored on a passed ball.

Krauth fanned nine in recording her third straight shutout of the tournament. Tuley struck out eight, going the distance for the Mavericks.
