Hockey welcomes (RV) St. Cloud State for NCHC play at Baxter Arena

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Hockey (7-11-0, 3-7-0 NCHC) returns home Friday, hosting (RV) St. Cloud State (10-10-0, 3-7-0 NCHC) from Jan. 9-10 at Baxter Arena on Kemp Ice. The series marks the Mavericks' first home series since Nov. 22. Fans can listen live on 1290 KOIL or the Varsity Network, with both games streaming on NCHC.tv.

On Friday, the first 3,000 fans will receive a Jake Guentzel bobblehead presented by Vance Thompson Vision. Guentzel, an Omaha native and former Maverick team captain, is bound for the 2026 Winter Olympics representing Team USA. Guentzel is in his 10th NHL seasons and is one of four Mavericks to have won a Stanley Cup title.

The Mavericks opened the new year on the road in Ithaca, N.Y., dropping a pair of tightly contested games at then-No. 17 Cornell, falling 6-4 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. In the series opener, Omaha erased an early 3-0 deficit with four unanswered goals, before the Big Red responded with three third-period goals to secure the win.

Saturday night was highlighted by a standout performance from freshman forward Jérémy Loranger (Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada), who scored both of the Mavericks' goals. Loranger has found the back of the net four times over his last three appearances.

Freshman goaltender Dawson Cowan (Warren, Manitoba, Canada) stopped 59 shots against then-No. 17 Cornell, including a season high of 37 saves on Friday night. Cowan now has 265 saves through nine games, posting a 3.16 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

Offensively, Omaha has scored 10 goals over its last three games, with seven different players finding the scoresheet.

Through 20 games, 19 of 26 different Mavericks have found the back of the net, with three scoring five or more goals. Luke Woodworth leads the Mavericks with 14 points (3G, 11A), while Maxime Pellerin follows with 12 points (6G, 6A).

(RV) St. Cloud State enters the weekend following a strong showing at the Cactus Cup, earning wins over Yale (6-2) on Jan. 2 and UMass Lowell (3-2) on Jan. 3.
Tyson Gross paces the Huskies with 27 points, including 11 goals and a team-high 16 assists, while Austin Burnevik leads the team with 13 goals.

Omaha and (RV) St. Cloud State have squared off since 1998, with the teams last meeting at Baxter Arena during the 2024–25 season. The Mavericks swept that series, claiming a 6-3 win in the opener before closing the weekend with a 3-1 victory.

The Mavericks hits the road, heading to Miami (Ohio), competing at Goggins Ice Center from Jan. 16-17. Both games will stream on NCHC.tv, with radio coverage available on 1290 KOIL and the Varsity Network.
