Hockey takes on the Fighting Hawks

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Hockey (6-8-0, 3-5-0 NCHC) travels to Grand Forks, N.D., for a rivalry series with No. 4 North Dakota (12-4-0, 6-2-0 NCHC) from Dec. 12-13 at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The games will be streamed on Midco Sport and NCHC.tv and fans can listen live on 1290 KOIL or the Varsity Network.

During the 2024-25 season, Omaha has competed in 11 ranked matchups, collecting five ranked victories this season, including a 2-0 road shutout of then-No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth on Nov. 15 to split the series with the Bulldogs. The win marked the Mavericks' first shutout of the 2025-26 campaign.
In their most recent series from Nov. 18–19, the Mavericks split the weekend with Yale at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn., falling 2–1 in the opener before earning a 3–1 victory in game two.

In Friday's tight contest, Maxime Pellerin struck 70 seconds into the game for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Co-captain and senior defenseman Griffin Ludtke (Elko, Minn.) and freshman forward Luke Woodworth (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada) added assists.

Ludtke leads Omaha with nine assists, while Woodworth owns a team-best 10 points.

Yale answered midway through the first period and added the game-winner in the second to take the opener.

On Saturday, the Mavericks controlled play. Freshman forward Cameron Briere (Stillwater, Minn.) opened the scoring with his first career goal and Sean Tschigerl followed to make it 2–0 with his third of the season.

Sophomore defenseman Marcus Broberg (Örebro, Sweden) sealed the victory, capitalizing on the empty net for his first of the season and second career tally.

In goal, reigning NCHC Goaltender of the Year and KJ Branding NCHC Goaltender of the Week (Nov. 4) Simon Latkoczy (Trenčín, Slovakia) made his 11th appearance, stopping 28 shots after a 15-save effort on Friday.

Omaha and then-No. 8 North Dakota met off earlier this season at Baxter Arena from Nov. 7–8, where the Mavericks fell 7–2 in the opener and 4–1 to close the weekend.

The No. 4 Fighting Hawks enter the upcoming matchup riding a five-game winning streak following a non-conference sweep at Bemidji State (Nov. 28–29) and an NCHC sweep of St. Cloud State (Dec. 5–6).

Freshman forward Cole Reschny leads No. 4 North Dakota with 18 points (2G, 16A), while Will Zellers owns a team-best 10 goals.

The upcoming series with the Fighting Hawks brings the Mavericks' total to 13 ranked matchups on their 2025–26 regular-season slate.

Omaha Hockey continues on the road, facing Augustana in a non-conference showdown from Dec. 19-20 in Sioux Falls, S.D. at Midco Arena. Both games will stream on Midco Sports Plus, with radio coverage available on 1290 KOIL and the Varsity Network.
