The Mavericks were the only NCHC team to record a sweep over the weekend, earning their third consecutive ranked win on Saturday, Nov. 1, to open conference play in their first road series and notch their fourth top 20 victory of the season.
In the NCHC opener against the Tigers, a pair of goals from senior forward Tyler Rollwagen (Bloomington, Minn.) and a season-high 49 saves by senior goaltender Simon Latkoczy (Trencin, Slovakia) powered the Mavericks to a 3-2 victory over then-No. 15 Colorado College.
Following the co-captain's standout performance, Latkoczy was named the KJ Branding National Collegiate Hockey Conference Goaltender of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The reigning NCHC Goaltender of the Year backstopped (RV) Omaha to a 3-2 upset over the Tigers on Friday, Oct. 31, turning aside 49 shots to ensure the Mavericks never trailed. This is the fifth time Latkoczy has had 47 or more saves, three of which have come on Fridays.
Latkoczy's effort helped (RV) Omaha capture its first conference win of the season and hand the Tigers their first defeat in four games and second loss of the season. Latkoczy posted a .961 save percentage in the win.
Through five of six games this season, he has totaled 172 saves while maintaining a .925 save percentage and 2.83 goals-against average overall.
The honor marks Latkoczy's first weekly nod of the campaign and fifth of his career.
The Mavericks totaled eight goals across the weekend from six different players, including sophomore forward Maxime Pellerin (Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada) who leads the Mavericks in points (8) and goals (5).
Following the weekend, senior defenseman and co-captain Griffin Ludtke (Elko, Minn.) leads (RV) Omaha with seven assists after contributing two to open the series with the Tigers and one to secure the series sweep.
Dating back to 2010, and since March 12, 2023, against No. 8 North Dakota, the Mavericks are split 5-5 in their last 10 games against the Fighting Hawks. (RV) Omaha and No. 8 North Dakota last faced off on March 15, 2025, at Baxter Arena on Kemp Ice, falling 3-2, in the NCHC quarterfinal.
The Fighting Hawks make the trip to Omaha coming off of a series split against Minnesota-Duluth. On Oct. 31, No. 8 North Dakota lost 4-3 in overtime, but followed with a 5-1 victory the following day.
Through the Fighting Hawks' first eight games of the season, senior forward Ben Strinden leads the team with nine points on two goals and seven assists. Freshman defenseman Keaton Verhoeff owns four goals, the most on the squad.
(RV) Omaha Hockey takes on Minnesota-Duluth from Nov. 14-15 at AMSOIL Arena. The game will be streamed on NCHC.tv and fans can listen live on 1290 KOIL or the Varsity Network.
