Ty Mueller opened his college career in Omaha by scoring a goal in four of his first six games.
After missing some time due to illness in January, the freshman has quickly found his form again.
Mueller has four goals in his last four outings and finished February with five points in the six games in which he played. All four of his goals came in Maverick victories over Top 10 competition, which has helped earn the freshman forward from Cochrane, Alberta, the NCHC's Rookie of the Month award.
After going scoreless with one total shot in road games at North Dakota and Miami early in the month, Mueller caught fire when Omaha returned to Baxter Arena. He recorded a goal in each of his team's wins over then-No. 8 St. Cloud State and added an assist in the series. Mueller then notched his first collegiate two-goal game in Friday's win over No. 3 Denver, which came on the eve of his 19th birthday.
For the month, Mueller scored on four of his 11 shots (a .364 clip) and tied with
Brandon Scanlin and
Kevin Conley for the team lead in goals. He has eight goals and four assists in his first college season.
