2019-20 Omaha Men's Tennis - Year in Review

Although the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-20 slate featured many bright spots for the Omaha men's tennis team.

The Mavericks put together a win streak, saw a program record tied, earned Summit League recognition and landed a pair of ITA rankings.

Win Streak

The Mavericks posted a three-match win streak in a nine-day span with victories over Creighton, Saint Louis and Green Bay.

Omaha began action at home with wins over Creighton (4-3) and Saint Louis (7-0) to notch the weekend sweep on Feb. 7-8 before topping Green Bay (5-2) in Grand Forks, N.D., on Feb. 15.

Nathan Reekie

Reekie Tied Singles Record

Senior Nathan Reekie recorded his 33rd career singles victory on Saturday, Feb. 15, tying the program record in Omaha's 5-2 win vs. Green Bay in Grand Forks, N.D.

The senior notched the record-tying victory in three sets (6-2, 6-7, 10-6) over Satchel Benn in the No. 2 match.

Matt Hulme

Hulme Shined at ITA All-American Championships

Junior Matt Hulme became the second Maverick in program history to reach the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships. The junior tallied the most victories for a Maverick at the event with a 4-2 singles record.

The Brisbane, Australia, native capped fall play with an appearance in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings in the fall, landing at 97th. Hulme was the lone player among Summit League teams to be ranked in singles action.

Davis Lawley

Lawley Named Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Davis Lawley was named Summit League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Feb. 11 after helping the Omaha men's tennis team sweep Creighton and Saint Louis.

Lawley was a perfect 4-0 in his singles and doubles matches vs. Creighton and Saint Louis. The Fargo, N.D., native teamed up with Abdoul Ouattara to post a 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles vs. Creighton and won by retirement in his singles match.

Against Saint Louis, Lawley and Ouattara won 6-1 in the No. 2 doubles match before Lawley swept his opponent in two sets in singles action to clinch the weekend sweep.

Nathan Reekie and Matt Hulme

Dynamic Duo

Nathan Reekie and Matt Hulme earned the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national doubles ranking in school history on March  4.

The pair appeared at No. 78 in the national rankings after posting a 4-4 overall record and tallying wins in No. 1 doubles over Wichita State, Saint Louis, Green Bay and Tulsa.
