GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Omaha Men's Tennis earned its first conference win of the campaign with a 5-2 victory over North Dakota on Friday night.
The Mavericks (11-9, 1-1 Summit League) earned all five of their team points in singles to defeat the Fighting Hawks (13-6, 2-1). With 11 team wins, Omaha and second-year head coach Hunter Clark surpassed last season's win total.
Redshirt sophomore Pavan Uppu (Pickerington, Ohio) clinched the win for Omaha in the No. 5 singles match. He defeated North Dakota's Christos Alex 6-3 in the first set before falling 6-2 in the second. Uppu took the third set by the same margin to secure the win for the Mavs.
Freshman Maddox Lundell (Minnetonka, Minn.) also played a three-set marathon match in the No. 4 flight. He fell 6-3 in the first set to Kotaro Matsumura of North Dakota but took the second with the same score. Lundell and Matsumura went to extra games in the third set, which Lundell won 7-5 for his team-leading 13th singles win of the spring.
"Could not be prouder of these guys," Clark said. "This was a gritty win on the road. The way they all responded after losing the doubles point showed me how tough this group is."
The Mavericks will face Kearney on the road on Wednesday, April 8, for their final nonconference game of the season.
