Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – No. 1 Denver finished a sweep of the Omaha hockey team with a 3-0 win on Saturday night at Baxter Arena.
The Mavericks finished sixth in the NCHC with a record of 9-13-2-0/0 and will travel to No. 3 seed Western Michigan for a best-of-three NCHC quarterfinal series on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. If a third game is needed, it would be played on Sunday. Overall, the Mavericks are now 16-15-5.
Denver finished atop the conference with a record of 18-3-3-0/2 and improved to 26-6-4 overall with its 11th straight win. It will host No. 8 seed Colorado College.
The Pioneers took the lead nearly two periods into the game. Henrik Borgstrom slipped behind the UNO defense and lifted a shot just under the crossbar at 15:24.
Just 38 seconds into the third, Emil Romig wired a wrist shot to the top corner off a rush to double the Pioneers' lead.
Borgstrom scored into an empty net with 45 seconds remaining for his NCHC-leading 21st goal of the year. He finished the weekend with four of Denver's seven goals.
Evan Weninger turned in his third straight strong performance with 24 saves while Evan Cowley made 28 saves for Denver.
