Mavericks Take 15th at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Omaha men's golf team shot its second-best round of the year to move up one spot and finish in 15th at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Saturday.

The Mavericks shot 291 in round three to finish the 54-hole tournament at 896.  Duke won the event with a score of 829.  Host Grand Canyon took second at 835, and Eastern Michigan finished third at 848.

Mitch Ryan shot his third consecutive round of 73 to finish at 219 for the tournament, good for a tie for 42nd in the 98-player field.  The total score was a career best for Ryan in a 54-hole tournament.

Ben Maskus fired a 74 in the third round to close at 223.  That put him in a tie for 63rd.  He was two strokes ahead of freshman David Huxham, making his collegiate debut.  Huxham finished at 225 that included a team-best round of 69 on Saturday to put him in a tie for 73rd.

Max Hellstrom shot 75 in the closing round to finish at 234, good for a tie for 89th.  Kevin Gordon closed the scoring for UNO, shooting a round of 81 to finish at 235.

The Mavericks are back in action at the Little Rock First Tee Classic on Monday and Tuesday, March 27-28.
